Abruzzo, The Green Heart of Europe

The garden of Europe, a land of parks, the green lungs of central Italy. A protected paradise of beaches, hills, woods and mountains just waiting to be seen.

With three national parks and dozens of nature reserves, Abruzzo boasts an area of protected territory that has no equal in the rest of Europe

The National Park of Abruzzo is the oldest in Italy and is crossed by numerous footpaths and tourist routes which allows the visitor to reach all parts of it in complete safety. There are 125,000 acres of land which includes major animal species native to the Apennines.

The Gran Sasso and Monti della Laga National Park, besides being the largest in Italy, is a paradise for hikers and climbers. The highest peak in the region (and of the whole Apennine range), the Corno Grande (2914m) and the Corno Piccolo (2655), are the most popular with trekkers and climbers.
